Qaujigiartiit Health Research Centre

Objective

The objective of this project is to foster Inunnguiniq in our communities. “Inunnguiniq” means “making of a human being” and refers to traditional child-rearing wisdom and practices. We propose to accomplish this through 3 pathways in our proposal:

  1. Translating and producing an updated version of the Inunnguiniq curriculum, which has recently received some additions based on feedback from caregivers and facilitators.
  2. Providing Inunnguiniq training sessions to community members in Nunavut who work with children and parents, and wish to run the Inunnguiniq program in their community.
  3. Provide mentorships support to 4 Inunnguiniq Facilitators to become instructors in the Inunnguiniq program and childrearing philosophy. This will contribute to the strengthening of Inunnguiniq capacity within their 4 identified organizations: Pirurvik Centre in Pond Inlet, Arviat Wellness Centre in Arviat, Ottawa Inuit Children’s Centre in Ottawa, and Cambridge Bay Wellness Centre in Cambridge Bay – and contribute to greater Inunnguiniq capacity in our communities in general. Once they successfully complete the mentorship program, they will have the knowledge and experience to mentor their colleagues within their own organizations in the ways of Inunnguiniq.
